WTF Happened!?!?!?....

I witnessed one of the most disgusting meltdowns in Philadelphia Eagle history yesterday afternoon. The Eagles let up an early TD to the G-men (even before many people got settled into their seats), but then turned things around in a big way to dominate the first 45 minutes of the game...not even close. Then a funny thing happened....Plaxico Burress fumbled the ball into the endzone from about 10 yards out and the Eagles D bobbled it around until the Giants finally pounced on it for their second TD of the afternoon. It was all down hill from there.

With a 17 point lead heading into the 4th quarter on your home turf, you would think you had the game locked up....I guess that is what happened to Andy & the rest of the Eagles yesterday afternoon because it is hard to explain their collapse otherwise. After 45 minutes, it looked like the Eagles may be the team to beat in the NFC as they controlled both sides of the ball, but after that fluke fumble recovery TD at the beginning of the 4th gave the Giants life, it all came crumbling down. The offense went into a shell with a healthy lead, not trying anything creative or downfield, and the defense just didn't have the manpower in the secondary to keep the Giants down even though the front 4 continued to pressure Eli time and time again. I'll give credit to Eli and the rest of the NY offense for sticking with it and stepping up late in the game, but this defeat has to be blamed on the coaching and the lack of a power running back to put the game on ice for the Eagles.

To add further insult to their humiliating meltdown, the Eagles will be without Jevon Kearse who suffered a "severe knee injury" in OT and may be without Rod Hood and Shawn Andrews next week as well, as both suffered injuries in the game. Thankfully the Birds have DL depth , but Kearse is the motor for that group and will be sorely missed...hopefully there is no significant structural damage so that he may be able to return in the 2nd half of the year but only time will tell.

Painful...time to move on and focus on San Fran.....this team has the players and system to go far this year and I think they did show that for 45 minutes yesterday but they need to get over it fast and regroup to make that happen.
